This research focuses on using design as a tool for promoting positive impact in society. The endeavors included in this area address design opportunities driven by socio-economical needs rather than by market driven ones.
Outreach to developing countries, natural disasters and other emergency situations are common contexts for this research. This research is being conducted in collaboration with James Myers, Director of Center for Multidisciplinary Studies.

An initial project focusing on water filtration concepts was developed in a graduate-level design studio in 2011.

Future plans for this research include further development of projects on water filtration and purification and submission of proposals to:

-National Collegiate Inventors and Innovations Alliance (NCIIA) – Sustainable Vision
-Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) -People, Prosperity and Planet
-National Science Foundation (NSF) – Transforming Undergraduate Education in STEM
